← Will WatchPrivacy Policy
Last updated 6 July 2026
Will Watch ("Will Watch", "we", "us") is a personal project built and operated by William Crookes, an individual developer based in the United Kingdom. This Privacy Policy explains what information Will Watch collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. By using the Will Watch app, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
- Account information: your email address and password, display name, preferred language, and your analytics consent choice. Passwords are handled entirely by our backend provider, Supabase -- we never see or store your raw password.
- Your watch activity: the shows and movies you add to your watchlist, the episodes and movies you mark as watched (and when), and your progress through seasons.
- Content you post: comments, replies, and votes on comments or cast members that you choose to submit. This content is visible to other users of the app.
- Push notification token: if you turn on new-episode notifications, we store a device-level push token (provided by Expo) tied to your account so we can send you those notifications.
- Usage analytics, only if you opt in: turning on "Help improve Will Watch" in Settings enables anonymized product-usage events (e.g. which screens you visit, sign-in/sign-up events) via PostHog. Nothing is collected here until you explicitly opt in, and you can turn it off again at any time.
- Movie and TV metadata (titles, overviews, posters, cast, air dates) shown in the app comes from The Movie Database (TMDB) and is not personal information about you.
Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect or process payment or billing information (Will Watch is currently entirely free, with no subscriptions), your precise device location, your contacts, or any camera or microphone data.
How We Use Your Information
- To operate the app: storing and syncing your watchlist, watch history, comments, and votes.
- To send transactional emails -- confirming your account, letting you reset your password, and (once enabled) magic-link/OTP sign-in -- via our email provider, Brevo.
- To send push notifications about new episodes, but only if you've turned that on in Settings.
- To understand how the app is used and improve it, but only for accounts that have opted in to analytics.
- To maintain the security and integrity of the service, including detecting abuse.
Legal Basis for Processing (UK/EEA users)
- Performance of a contract: core account, watchlist, and watch-history data -- this is what makes the app work.
- Consent: analytics and, if enabled, push notifications, both opt-in and withdrawable at any time.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure and functioning correctly.
Who We Share Information With
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising purposes today (see "Advertising" below). We use a small number of service providers to run Will Watch, each processing data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase -- our database, authentication, and backend hosting provider. Account data, watch history, and app content are stored here.
- The Movie Database (TMDB) -- provides the movie/TV metadata, images, and cast information shown in the app. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- PostHog (EU Cloud region) -- processes anonymized usage analytics, only for accounts that have opted in.
- Brevo -- sends transactional emails on our behalf.
- Sentry -- receives crash and error reports so we can fix bugs; this may occasionally include limited technical information about what you were doing in the app at the point of a crash.
- Expo/EAS -- delivers push notifications and hosts the infrastructure the app is built and updated through.
- Cloudflare -- hosts our website (willwatch.app) and routes incoming email to our support/privacy inbox.
International Data Transfers
Some of the providers listed above may process data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to keep your information protected.
Data Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (Settings -> Delete Account, in the app), your profile, watchlist, watch history, comments, and votes are permanently and immediately deleted.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or withdraw consent for certain processing. In Will Watch, you can:
- Export a copy of your data at any time: Settings -> Export My Data.
- Permanently delete your account and all associated data: Settings -> Delete Account.
- Withdraw analytics consent at any time: the "Help improve Will Watch" toggle in Settings.
For anything else, or if you're not able to do something above yourself, contact us at privacy@willwatch.app.
Children's Privacy
Will Watch is not intended for anyone under 16 years old, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@willwatch.app and we'll delete it.
Advertising
Will Watch does not currently show advertising. If we introduce advertising in the future, we'll update this Privacy Policy beforehand to explain what that means for your information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know via the app or by email.
